Liver Cancer in Cats

Like their human companions, cats can also suffer from liver cancer. This disease thankfully is not very common in our furry little friends. Sadly though, the death rate is very high and treatment is very expensive.

If you can have cancer of the liver diagnosed early the chances for survival are increased and the treatment course is much easier. What should be known is that liver cancer is wholly preventable. You can help prevent liver cancer in your cat with the right types of food, exercise, plenty of fresh clean water, and nutritional supplements.

The causes of liver cancer in cats is caused by many factors which include their genetic predisposition, their environment, and diet. A sign of liver cancer is the presence of a tumor in the liver tissue. What needs to be found out is if this is the first location of the cancer or did it form elsewhere then spread to the liver. These types of cancer are highly aggressive and again, early diagnosis is critical. This is why twice-yearly visits to your veterinarian is important.

Some of the first signs of pending problems include frequent vomiting, rapid unexplained weight loss, having a poor appetite, excessive lethargic periods and diarrhea. If you are seeing these signs do not hesitate to bring your cat in for an immediate check-up. You know your little friend better than anybody else and if you see their health has changed – there is always a reason why!
