Bloody Urine in Cats
If your cat has bloody urine, this is not a good sign. If you notice that your cat is urinating bloody urine, then something is definitely wrong with your cat and it needs to be taken for a veterinarian examination to ascertain the root cause of the problem. Most often bloody urine is caused by a urinary track infection or something even more serious. If you notice that your cat is very weak, it may be anemia which could result in your pet collapsing and even death.
Bloody urine in cat is know as Hematuria. It just means the presence of blood in the urine. This bloody urine can be both visible and invisible in the urine. The invisible form can be seen under a microscope while the later can be seen visibly. Routinely check your cat’s litter box for any changes in their normal defecation.
They are many known causes of this type of disorder but the most common stems from a urinary tract infection. In more rare cases it could also be caused by cancer of the urethra. Bacterium is the primary agent of urinary tract infection which could lead to more serious problems with the bladder and the urethra if it is left untreated. The bacteria blocks the tube that carries urine out of the body. A quick trip to the vet can get your pet the medication it needs.
There are similar symptoms amongst cats that affects the urinary tract but it varies according to the type of cat. You might notice that your cat will have problems urinating and the amount of urine will be very small. You may also notice visible signs of blood in the urine.
Most of the urinary tract infections can be treated with the use of antibiotics. Make sure to follow the instructions of the vet and give the proper dosage to your cat to ensure that the drug is most effective. You will notice visible signs of change and less discolouration.
Another form of bloody urine in cats is caused by a bad kidney. This happens when there is a large concentration of certain minerals in the kidney. The symptoms are also similar with the urinary tract infection only it’s a lot more painful. One of the best ways of dealing with this problem is to change the diet of your cat. When your cat has a vaginitis infection, it may also lead to having bloody urine. This type of infection is not common but this usually happens after a cat has just given birth. Other forms of infection may can cause bloody urine include reproductive disorders, congenital abnormalities and bladder cancer.
Any form of bloody urine in cat is abnormal. If you notice any changes in your cat’s urine, you need to get to the vet hospital immediately. Make notes of all the changes and symptoms so you can be best prepared to assist the vet in diagnosing and treating your pet.
